The Orem Trivia Challenge Board Game

One of the most fascinating relics from Orem history is the Orem Trivia Challenge board game. Designed by Steve Densley in 1985, the game featured both general and highly obscure questions about Orem. The game was funded in part by selling a space on the board to local businesses. If you look at the picture above, you’ll see a litany of Orem businesses some of which are still around.

The board game also features various Orem landmarks such as Geneva Steel, the City Center, the Fitness Center and SCERA. There were only 1,000 copies of this game made so if you have one, consider yourself lucky.

This game was similar to Trivial Pursuit and other question-based games as each player moved a peg around a colored circular grid and answers questions about Orem based on the color they landed on. If a question is answered successfully they get a ring of that color to put on the pawn. The first player to collect all six rings and return to the Orem Chamber of Commerce is the winner.

If anyone finds a copy of this game, please preserve it for posterity. This is a part of our history we never want to forget. Plus, how many cities have their very own board game?

If you have memories of playing this game in your childhood, we want to talk to you!

In a future Walter article, we’ll grab some of the questions from this game and test your mid-80s knowledge of Orem.
