It’s time to be a star. A City Star.


The 2020 City Stars competition will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Sharon Park (600 N 300 E), except events as otherwise noted.

 A few reminders:

  1.        Good sportsmanship will be expected by all participants.
  2.        Participation – All full time, part-time, and flexible City employees are welcome to participate. Gift cards will be awarded to City Employees only. If you want to participate in all events during each time block, you may do so.  However, you can only be declared the winner in one event per time block.        
  3.        Awards – Awards will be given to those Employees who win individual events and to the team for team events. Event winners will be awarded a gift card.
  4.        Please consider carpooling – parking is limited at Sharon Park.
  5.        Please wear a mask, practice social distancing, and use good hygiene. 

 EVENTS

 

GOLF TOURNAMENT

Date:  Tuesday, August 6, 2020

Time:   8:00 AM – FINISH

Location:  Sleepy Ridge Golf Course

Info:  Employee 4 Person Scramble Tournament (Men and/or Women). Scramble format rules will be used.  Partners may be mixed as there will not be separate men’s and women’s divisions.  Cost is $35/person (18 holes + cart).  PLEASE SIGN UP IN ADVANCE  (contact dboone@orem.org or 7455) – space is limited.  You will pay on Thursday, Aug 6 PRIOR to the start of the tournament.

 

2 MILE RUN 

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   7:00 AM (Check in starts at 6:50 AM) – FINISH

Location:  Community Park Walking Path (south of the Orem Fitness Center)

Info:  The race will begin at the Northeast Pavilion.  The race will include 4 laps around the track. There will be a Men=s and Women’s divisions. Anyone who would like to run or walk the course is invited to come and participate. Please be ready to start at 7:00 AM sharp. Late arrivals may run but will not be included in the timing for prizes.

 

DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   8:00 AM (Check in starts at 7:50 AM) – FINISH

Location:  Scera Park Disc Golf Course (Meet at the main pavilion)

Info:    2-person teams; partners may be mixed as there will not be separate men’s and women’s divisions.

  • The lowest score wins. One point is counted for each time a disc is thrown and when a penalty is incurred.
  • Tee throws must be completed within or behind the designated tee areas
  • A lie is a spot the previous throw has landed.
  • After teeing off, the farthest from the hole throws first.
  • On the next hole, the lowest number of throws determines who will tee off first.
  • A disc that comes to rest in the disc basket or chains constitutes successful completion of that hole.
  • Yield to people in the fairway
  • Play the disc where it lies.  If a disc is out of bounds, a drop will be allowed, closest to where the disc lies out of bounds

 

FOOSBALL TOURNAMENT – CANCELED

GOLF CHIP

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   1:00 – 2:00 PM

Location:  Sharon Park (600 N 300 E)

Info:    There will be a Men=s and Women’s division.

  • Each contestant will take three (3) 50 yard chips.
  • The closest chip will be measured and counted to the nearest inch.
  • Clubs and balls will be provided, or contestants can use their own.

FRISBEE COMPETITION

Info:  There will be a Men=s and Women’s division.

SOFTBALL THROW

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   1:00 – 2:00 PM

Location:  Sharon Park (600 N 300 E)

Info:  There will be a Men=s and Women’s division.

  • Each participant will be allowed two throws.
  • Scores are based on both distance and accuracy.  Example: if a participant throws the ball 100 feet, but the ball lands 30 feet to the right of the measuring tape, the final score would be 100-30 = 70 feet.
  • Scores will be based on exact feet and inches.  Scores will be determined from where the participants throw makes contact with the ground (bounces or rolls do not add to the score).
  • There will be no warm up throws once the contest has started.

DART THROW

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   1:00 – 2:00 PM

Location:  Sharon Park Pavilion (600 N 300 E)

Info:  There will be a Men=s and Women’s division.

  • Rules for this event will be explained at the start of the competition.
  • Each participant will be allowed THREE practice tosses then SIX tosses that count for score.
  • The participant with the highest score will win their respective division.

PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT (Doubles)

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   1:00 – 3:00 PM

Location:  Sharon Park Pickleball Courts (600 N 300 E)

Info:  2-person teams; partners may be mixed as there will not be separate men’s and women’s divisions.

  • Tournament will be single elimination unless number of participants allows for double elimination.
  • Teams can be decided beforehand or at the tournament. Anyone who is interested should come.

PUNT, PASS, & KICK COMPETITION

Date:  Thursday, August 13, 2020

Time:   2:00 – 3:00 PM

Location:  Sharon Park (600 N 300 E)

Info:  There will be a Men=s and Women’s division.

  • Each person will be allowed ONE punt, ONE pass, and ONE place kick as part of the competition.
  • If a participant tries to punt, pass, or kick and misses the ball completely, it does NOT count as an attempt and ONE additional attempt is allowed.
  • Scores are based on distance and accuracy.  Example: if a participant punts the ball 100 feet, but the ball lands 30 feet to the right of the measuring tape, the final score would be 100-30 = 70 feet.
  • Scores will be determined from where a participant’s punt/pass/kick first makes contact with the ground.
  • Scores are based on exact feet and inches (round to nearest inch).  The lowest score is “0.” No negative scores will be given.
  • A participant’s final score is his/her cumulative total for the three individual events.  Example:  If a participant scores 40 for punting, 60 for passing, and 22 for kicking, the participant’s final score is 122.
  • If a participant goes over the line before releasing or making contact with the ball, he/she will be penalized five (5) feet.  Exception:  in kicking, a participant may go over the line without penalty provided the tee is placed on or behind the line.

 

           

TRIVIA BLITZ

Location:  this competition will take place digitally

Info:  There will be a Men=s and Women’s division.

  • For this event, answer as many questions correctly as you can in 2 minutes. Question topics will include history, pop culture, math, science, literature, entertainment, sports, geography, and more.

 

BASKETBALL SKILLS CHALLENGE
