Once again this year, the capstone event at the end of our Employee Giving Campaign will be the United Way Day of Caring, held on Thursday, September 8th from 8:30am to Noon. I’m hoping we will each continue to take advantage of this opportunity to serve our community in a different capacity during work time! The following lists the projects we have planned:
- Work at your own desk:
- This activity can be done throughout the week from the comfort of your own workspace. You’ll be creating packets of a simple learning activity for the “Help Me Grow Utah” program by cutting out flash cards and putting the activity in a ziploc bag.
- This project can accommodate numerous volunteers.
- Family Haven project:
- Family Haven helps individuals and families through child abuse prevention programs and therapy services. They could use some help painting railings, shelves, a shed, and some landscape cleanup.
- 20 volunteers needed
- University Parkway Trail landscaping:
- Sprucing up the bike and pedestrian trail along University Parkway near the southeast Orem/Provo boundary.
- 50 volunteers needed
- Park and Ride cleanup and landscaping:
- Cleaning up and adding landscaping to the Park and Rides on 1200 West at Center Street and 800 North.
- 15 volunteers needed
- Senior home yard work:
- Assisting a deserving citizen to clean up their yard.
- 15 volunteers needed
- Engaging elementary school students at Foothill Elementary:
- Conducting age-appropriate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities with elementary school students.
- 30 volunteers needed
- Construct a gaga ball court at Sharon Elementary School:
- Go ahead and google it. It’s a thing. We need a crew of handy folks to install a play area for this fast-paced, dodgeball-style game.
- 15 volunteers needed
- Scera Pool winterization:
- Assisting the Recreation Department to disassemble and store items at the pool after the season is over.
- 15 volunteers needed
- All-Together Playground cleaning:
- Join a team of mystical creatures on a quest to renew the magic found in Orem’s most beloved playground.
- 20 volunteers needed
