Help Build Your Teens’ Feelings of Safety

Have you ever noticed your teen looking at the floor when speaking to others? Or not sticking up for themselves in certain instances? Or doesn’t speak up when a teacher asks if anyone has questions? Others might deem this teen to be struggling with shyness. However, it might be more because they don’t feel safe in a particular social setting in school, with their peers, or with their teachers. So, how can you help build feelings of safety? Help them know that they are safe to talk and that you will listen, that they can be themselves and receive praise, and that they can feel safe to express their feelings and feel comfortable.
