The following was sent as an email by Public Works Director Chris Tschirki.
Dear City of Orem Employees,
Itβs with a heavy heart that I send you this email to inform you that our good friend and former employee, Merrill Haas, passed away yesterday morning, February 17.Β As many of you know, Merrill worked in the Water Section of the Department of Public Works for nearly 28 years.Β In addition, he worked for the Pleasant Grove Fire Department in various capacities for many years. In the summer of 2018, he was diagnosed with stage four clear cell carcinoma.Β Since his first surgery in September 2018, he fought valiantly to overcome this disease, knowing it would likely take his life.Β His positive attitude and desire to beat this dreadful disease exemplify his character.
Merrillβs wife, Lynelle, has stated many time how grateful she is for the many employees who donated vacation hours on his behalf to help with their financial burden during this very challenging time. Your generous individual contributions and concerns for a fellow employee truly speak to your amazing character and the quality of people in this great organization! Thank you!
