The Civilian Medal is the most distinguished award presented to a non-sworn Department or community member for an outstanding act of heroism or valor. This act must be consistent with the factors described in the Medal of Valor section.

Factors for consideration for this award include, but are not limited to:

  1. The act involved the preservation of human life

  2. The situation was extremely hazardous; the nominee was able to evaluate the situation, was aware of the hazards, and took action

  3. A strong possibility of death or serious injury existed when the nominee acted

  4. The nominee’s actions were consistent with good judgment

  5. The nominee would not be subjected to reasonable criticism had he/she not taken the action

  6. The objective was of sufficient importance to justify the risk

The Civilian Employee of the Year Award honors an Orem City Police Department Civilian who distinguishes themselves by actions that represent the highest standards of the police profession and represent the city of Orem with professionalism. Nominees should be those civilians who highlight outstanding work, their personal and professional conduct reflects the highest standard of the Orem Police Department. These include but are not limited to moral character, integrity, and dependability. They have a work ethic that earns the respect of co-workers and supervisors. They consistently exhibit leadership, and do their part to improve community conditions, and improve the quality of life with the citizens or other employees they interact with.

The Volunteer of the Year award is awarded to a volunteer within the Orem Police Department. This award recognizes and honors this person who has demonstrated outstanding service to the mission of the department goals, overall leadership, and contributions for their work during a service year.
