There’s a lot of noise out there when it comes to wearing a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19 but the simple truth of it all is that wearing a mask saves lives. Here are a few points to consider in favor of wearing a mask when you are within 6 feet of another employee.
WEARING A MASK ISN’T ABOUT PROTECTING YOU, IT’S ABOUT PROTECTING OTHERS – A simple cloth covering over the nose and mouth can greatly reduce the number of droplets launched into the air when a person talks, coughs, sneezes, or unintentionally gleeks. Wearing a mask is especially important for protecting others because so many people are unsuspecting carriers of the virus. Research has shown that a simple cotton mask can reduce the transmission of particles by up to 99%.

WEARING A MASK IS PART OF THE ANTI-COVID TRIFECTA – When wearing a mask is combined with good hygiene and social distancing, the highest probability of not catching or spreading COVID-19 is achieved. South Korea has been widely praised for its handling of this pandemic and government officials credit their success in large part to their citizens’ dedication to wearing masks, good hygiene, and social distancing.
We know that there is an entire spectrum of feelings and opinions on being required to wear a mask at work but if simply wearing a mask can prevent just one employee from getting COVID-19, it’s definitely worth it.
