Everybody Emails Die at Age 30

To the surprise of employees at the City of Orem, “Everybody Emails” passed away peacefully in the Human Resources office surrounded by loved ones early Monday morning. Keri Rugg, HR Division Manager, held Everybody Emails’ hand as she slipped the surly bonds of Earth and into the great beyond. Ms. Rugg reported that Everybody Emails’ final words were “Our ICMA-RC rep will be here Wednesday” and “here are the events happening in the library this week.”

Everybody Emails had a full and eventful life filled with both highs and lows, but now she has returned to the great storage closet in the sky to join others that have gone on ahead such as the VCR, cassette tape, and pager.

Ernesto Lazalde, I.T. Division Manager, recalled the day that Everybody Emails first came to the City of Orem in the early ’90s. The City of Orem was one of the first cities in Utah to deploy email for workplace use.

In her memory, we’d like to reminisce on some of our favorite uses of Everybody Emails.

  1. Rick Rolls
  2. Reuniting lost packages with their rightful owner.
  3. Selling stuff – everything from guns to houses, to potatoes and everything in-between.
  4. Traffic updates
  5. Department Briefs
  6. Calls to Action
  7. Blood drives
  8. Deals and Coupons
  9. Free food
  10. Mandatory trainings and meetings

Only time will tell if we will miss Everybody Emails.
